Another Final Mass
OK, so... this is something that I like, but so unusual that I have doubts about it. It follows parti more then any massing I did so far; it looks fluid, organic, and simply cool, it provides long ramps for exercise,  it allows enough space for the program, it has core to access all spaces, it has tall spaces with curved walls. It will require huge windows for ramps to make them less claustrophobic. I also missing main ramp which leads from the park to the lobby.

  1. My only comment would be
"How does it engage the ground?" How are we dealing with Sandy and the flood zone?

    1. Having a "water activities" area on the ground floor will render it a waterproof. I forgot to mention that the blue area in section drawing shows the extend of water in pools; sauna and other possible spaces will be located above the blue line. Substructure for pools will be protected by enclosure.

  2. Salt water flooding is extremely corrosive and will damage almost everything in its path - including your pools, pumps, filters, heaters... I wouldn't rely on a protected enclosure to protect anything. Take a look at the flood images of Redhook. The progression of the form into a structure is really starting to take shape of a building that appears to work with the program. The section is very exciting, as I worried about the flatness. The ramps and movement of the people is interacting and makes sense with this building typology. I think you should look again at the first floor and how you can pull it up and perhaps have the pools be expressed from the ground level - raise them and so that when you approach you can see the underside of the form of the pool - maybe more organic - instead of this flat blue sitting on the earth.

    1. By substructure I didn't mean mechanical part of the pool, but only the formwork. I already did my plans for the pool area before; it will change, but basically it had lap pool, lazy river, and pool for children. I'm not quite sure how to make the underside of it visible.

  3. Do a quick google search for see through pool. The possibilities are endless. Remember, you are not thinking about a budget here like out in the real world. The forms are definitely moving forward. I agree with Jill and Lia; you need to reinvestigate your relationship with the ground. For contrast, look at MRDRV's work in Rotterdam, Morphosis in Paris, Beauborg (in Paris...pompidue). All of these approaches have completly different attitudes to the ground. Somewhere in there you can find your roots and growth metaphor that was so powerful in your earlier parti ideas.
